About the Physician

Dr. Mark Lischner’s father was a pediatrician, so he grew up with a physician role model. He was born in Connecticut, educated in Connecticut, Georgia, and New York, and came to the West Coast to serve in the U.S. Navy as the Assistant Director of Pulmonary Services at the Navy Hospital in San Diego. During his two-year tour in San Diego, there was a need for a pulmonary specialist aboard the hospital ship “USS Repose” in Vietnam, and Dr. Lischner served aboard this ship for two months until the ship was given orders to return to the United States. Upon completion of his military service, Dr. Lischner moved to the Sacramento area and established a private practice in pulmonary medicine. He is a founding member of PMA.

Dr. Lischner’s son carried on the family tradition of medicine and is practicing in Narvik, Norway where he lives with his wife and three daughters. His daughter is a teacher who is currently working on her Masters in Education and certification in special education. In the last 30 years, his household has also included three standard poodles, two West Highland white terriers, a Russian wolfhound, assorted stray dogs, a cat, two ponies, and four horses. In addition to an active medical practice and household, Dr. Lischner made time to be a member and officer of the Saint Albans Country Day School Board of Directors and Board Member of the Sierra Marlins Swim Team.

Dr. Lischner’s interests in medicine are broad, but since he has had sarcoidosis he takes a special interest in this disorder. He also has several friends with pulmonary fibrosis and, thus, sees a significant amount of patients with this difficult medical problem. The causes and treatment of shortness of breath is also a challenge Dr. Lischner enjoys taking on with his patients.

In his sparse spare time Dr. Lischner enjoys reading, playing poker with friends, traveling to Norway to visit his grandchildren, and even enjoys shopping!
